"before i leave"

Aspan Gallery presents... before i leave, the first solo exhibition by young artist Lyazzat Khanim

As a visual artist, Lyazzat Khanim explores the image and its metamorphoses as it transitions from photography to painting, from the tangible to the digital and back again. Her work excerpts fragments from everyday reality and invites reflection on what is hidden behind them.

before i leave – what do we do before we go, and what do we leave behind? The display consists of two parts: first, we enter the artist’s personal space through the details of her home, and then the public space – the familiar and often paradoxical world. The photorealistic, life-size images create the illusion that the artist accompanies us through the exhibition – we catch her reflections and shadows here and there. We join her to ensure that the cooker is turned off, the locks are closed, and the knife is placed on the windowsill as instructed by grandma. Through her eyes, we record the integrity of what we leave behind.
